Spring winds bring welcomed energy: Les Mills' agile legal team, FleetPartners driving sustainability, Luana D'Appollonio on adapting to new challenges, plus practical tips from Building Influence – Fresh perspectives from Aotearoa's in-house legal community.
Mahuru (approximately September) in the maramataka (Māori lunar calendar), is a time for renewal and regrowth —and those spring winds let us know that it's time to get moving!
This month, we’re focusing on movement and adapting. We chatted with the Les Mills International legal team, which supports people in getting active and adapting to challenges, and the FleetPartners legal team, an organisation that is literally 'driving' change with its sustainable leasing vehicles. In our Juno Staff Insight, Luana D'Appollonio shares her insights on adapting and resilience, comparing it to learning to dance to whatever music is playing.
We also share insights from our Building Influence event series, which brought together legal experts and leaders to discuss what it means to build and maintain influence. We've collated key takeaways and practical tips for you.
During Mental Health Awareness Week, it’s a welcomed time to reflect on how movement and connection might contribute to our wellbeing in different ways. Whether through physical activity, at work, or connecting with others in your community, Mahuru offers a timely reminder of renewal.
Karawhiua—go for it!
TEAM OVERVIEW - Les Mills International Legal team
The Les Mills International legal team brings a "relentless and spirited" approach to supporting global operations, from areas like music licensing to privacy and governance. We spoke with the team about how they stay nimble and drive the fitness revolution forward.
"Sometimes fires are inevitable but an effective legal team can ensure the business is informed, equipped and ready to douse the flames."
The FleetPartners legal team helps clients transition to electric vehicle fleets and reduce carbon emissions, and with a trans-Tasman team, they’ve mastered cross-border collaboration. Chris Tan in Auckland shares how they stay connected and support the business while playing a key role in ‘driving’ sustainability.
"We strive to be accessible, visible, and actively engaged across the business, from DE&I initiatives to Social Club events, reinforcing our role as trusted advisors."
This September, we took our Juno Learning Building Influence series on the road across Aotearoa, gathering GCs, heads of legal, and C-suite leaders to explore influence—how to gain it, maintain it, and use it effectively. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect and learn through candid, engaging discussions. We’ve gathered key takeaways and practical strategies to share.
At Juno, we love to share our team members' experiences and insights. This month, we caught up with Luana D'Appollonio, who enjoys supporting legal teams across NZ while based in what she believes must be one of the most beautiful places on earth: Queenstown. A trusted adviser with experience in Brazil, the UK, Singapore, and NZ, she has worked in a variety of industries. We asked her how she had adapted.
"I learnt how to dance to the music being played while always remaining true to my values."
Avoid the dreaded "Can you see my screen?" moment by prepping in advance. Close unnecessary apps, tidy up your desktop and have all relevant files open and ready. When it's time, click the Share Content button (the upward arrow icon) and choose the specific window to share. If your presentation includes audio, be sure to check the Include computer sound box. Look for the red border around the shared window to confirm it's live, and ask a quick confirmation like, “Can everyone see the document?” Practising with a friend or testing in a solo meeting beforehand can help things run smoothly.
Handy tips: When you’re done, be cautious not to hit Leave instead of Stop Sharing—those buttons are dangerously close! Also, try Presenter Mode to let people see both you and your content at the same time, reducing the need to ask, "Can you see my screen?" Just click Share Content, select Presenter Mode, and you're all set.
