You've probably read the sentence "As 2024 comes to a close" about 57 times this month already, so let's just skip to the heart of it - here are some numbers from 2024 that make us happy as they celebrate some of the ways the Juno community has connected and shared this year:
11 Juno Counsel newsletters: Featuring 10 In The Spotlights and 10 Team Overviews. Thanks to the generous contributions and expertise shared by our community.
6 CPD hours offered across 6 Juno Learning sessions: Addressing challenges and opportunities for in-house lawyers.
1,550 Juno Learning online and in-person registrations: Reflecting the strength and engagement of our in-house legal community.
12 guest speakers: Generously sharing their expertise at CPD events.
5 Juno Connect meetings: A space for clients to connect, share experiences, and support.
6 clauses added to our Clause Bank and 11 Office Hacks shared - practical tools to support in-house lawyers.
And that’s not even counting what’s in this edition: Nicola Silke's In The Spotlight, a Juno Learning Head, meet Heart summary, a downloadable Legal Operations Framework, a Holiday Office Hack, and a Holiday Bingo card. Enjoy!
May your summer be restorative and your ice cream melty.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Nicola Silke, Freightways
Freightways’ General Counsel, Nicola Silke, shares how she’s helping the business “move to a better place,” from issuing their first Climate Statement to embracing tech like Co-pilot to save time and streamline work. As a legal function of one, Nicola has built an “armoury” of tools, including strong relationships and group-wide compliance training, to keep Freightways ahead.
"Co-pilot is my new work BFF—it’s saving me hours on research and turning blank pages into clear guidance, leaving me more time to focus on the bigger picture."
We were delighted to welcome Molly Ireland, Possibility Coach, to our Juno Learning CPD session, where she explained how aligning IQ and EQ can lead to sharper decisions, stronger relationships, and more meaningful work.
"Emotions aren’t a weakness—they’re data. When we use them effectively, they help us make sharper decisions and build stronger connections." – Molly Ireland
Juno Lawyer Margot Lyons shares her key takeaways from this practical and insightful session.
Open and Generous is one of our core principles, and we’re excited to share a new addition to Juno's Resource Library!
Ngā mihi nui to Adela Kardos, Registrar and General Counsel at the University of Canterbury, for generously contributing their Legal Operational Framework. This resource helps manage legal risk, seek advice, and align in-house legal work with organisational priorities. It’s now available to download and adapt.
If you have a resource—a framework, checklist, precedent, or clause—that others could benefit from, we’d love to share it, attributed or anonymously. Every contribution amplifies the impact of in-house legal.
This month, we’re swapping WWAR for something to play to support wellbeing: SUMMER HOLIDAY BINGO.
Inspired by Nicola Silke’s mention of a “career bingo card,” we’ve put together a lighthearted holiday version to help make the most of the summer break.
Tick off activities like falling asleep in front of the cricket or laughing until you hurt. It’s a fun way to set some holiday goals, and you can play solo or with others. Download yours and you’ll also get a blank version to create your own.
Most of us know and use Schedule Send, but here’s how to take it up a notch this holiday season:
Email your future self: Draft a “welcome back” email with key tasks and links and a reminder of where you left off (or something motivating!) and schedule it to arrive in your inbox your first morning back.
Keep projects moving while you're offline: Schedule emails, reminders, or updates to land in colleagues' or clients' inboxes upon their return, not necessarily yours.
How to use it:
In Outlook (desktop or online): Compose your email, click Options > Delay Delivery (desktop) or Schedule Send (online), and pick your time.
In Gmail: Click the arrow next to Send, select Schedule Send, and choose your date and time.
Tips:
Scheduled emails look like they were sent in real time, so no one will know you’re secretly ahead of the game. Gmail and Outlook even let you update or cancel emails if plans change: In Gmail, check the Scheduled folder to edit or cancel; in Outlook, find scheduled emails in the Outbox (desktop only) for changes.
